Team Battle Tonight part 2!

Smack talk, what smack talk?

Team battle tonight!!

That's right folks, the original Four Horsemen are coming together tonight for a little team battle action. 2v2. 4000 pts (per team). Should be a great time. I will have a battle report up about it sometime in the next couple of days. I'm playing the Tyranids. Rob is playing the Orks. He's on my team. Two awesome horde armies coming together. Then Jeremy and Nate will be on a team for the first time. I know Jeremy is playing Dark Angels, and I'm not sure what Nate is going to play, but either way, it's going to be pretty fun.

We will have a post game commentary and things of that nature. We might even do a pre game army review and strategy discussion. Try some new stuff.

This will be only the second time for me running the Nids, but since now I own them, you will see them a whole lot more. Going to try some different stuff with them and just have some fun.

Comment below to who you think is going to be the victors!

Necrons From Here to Eternity

Another weekend has come and gone, and I have to say this one was great. My problem has been solved about which army I am going to pursue more seriously.  By the image above I think you can tell what direction I am going in.

My Tyranids are now in the safe hands of Tenzion, and his excitement assures me that they will be well taken care of. He already has some plans that sound pretty exciting, such as taking some of the Tyranid bits and kitbashing his Daemon Princes to Tyranid goodness.

So far to start out I have Imotek and the old Necron battle box.  Imotek, 7 Scarab bases, 3 Destroyers and 9 Warriors are assembled thus far.  19 warriors left to go.  More of the warriors would be done, but I was getting tired of making sure the guns were just right, and took a break.

Things that I am looking to get to round out my list are Command Barges, Monoliths, and Immortals to start. Lychguard and Triarch Praetorians are also looking intriguing, and will be added at some point as well. I hope to have a 3000 point force assembled by March.  The new battle boxes look good as well, and I am sure I will be picking them up at some point.

I am really excited to get this new project going.  I have been wanting to tackle Monoliths for some time now, and I think I may do a little internet searching to place LEDS inside. As soon as some measurable progress has been made I will be posting some pictures up.

How have you been keeping busy in the hobby?  Let me know in the comments!

Tau and Blood Angels VS Chaos and Salamanders

Damn My Indecision...or when will I settle on a 40k army

Lately I have had a ton of trouble with trying to settle on an army to use as my main army.  Currently I forces for Tyranids, Dark Angels, Grey Knights, and Sisters of Battle.  I enjoy playing all of these forces, and like the fluff for each.  To be honest, there isn't an army that I do not like the fluff for, hehe.

I like having options when it comes down to make a decision on what to play, but having the options has become somewhat paralyzing when trying to decide which I would like to expand upon.  It also doesn't help that I have become enchanted with the Necrons as of late, and have been considering on starting them as my main force.
I am sure others have had similar troubles, and I would love to hear your thoughts.  Please share any advice you might have in the comments below.

Space Wolves & Blood Angels vs. Orks, Necrons, and Dark Eldar

Great battle. Was on a time crunch so we didn't get to finish. Watch after the battle report to listen to me talk about the predictions of the battle and some new things the Four Horsemen are doing. Good stuff!

Back to Your Regularly Scheduled Warhammer 40K Blog

....And We Are Back!

Yesterday the site was blacked out in protest of the proposed SOPA bill, you may have heard about.

A lot has been said the last couple of days regarding the "leaked" rule set floating out there. Some sources are now indicating that it is real, while some are maintaining the rumor status. From the feedback on several different pages it seems that people who are playing games with the rule set are really enjoying the added strategy and depth the changes have brought.

I would like to play a couple games with the rule set, but have reservations about learning the rules, and then having to relearn them again when the official 6th addition arrives.  I'll check with the other Horseman to see what their thoughts are, we may possibly have a battle report with the new rule set if they are down.

Also, I picked up some more primer to get the ball rolling  with painting, I think I may re-prime the Sisters since I will be playing them once we get the campaign going. Also, anyone have tips for striping paint from plastic and metal?  I heard Simple Green works well, but I want to get some input before I try anything.

New Warhammer 40k FAQs Released!

Good morning everyone.  It appears that Game Development has been busy at GW, and have released a number of updated FAQs!  Most were minor changes, however the first Necron FAQ was released.

Books affected were:
40k rulebook, Apocalypse, Blood Angels, Chaos Daemons, Chaos Space Marines, Dark Angels, Dark Eldar, Eldar, Grey Knights, Imperial Guard, Necron, Ork, Space Marine, And Tyranid.

Book not updated: Black Templar, Tau.

Does this mean that we may be seeing updated codices for Tau and Black Templar sooner than later?

Here is the link if you would like to check the changes out.

SNOWPOCALYPSE!

Well, here in Iowa we are finally getting some snow.  Normally we would have had snow all throughout the winter season, but we have been quite lucky so far.

For me, what this foul weather means is getting moving on the hobby side of things.  I have decided to switch from the Tyranids to Sisters of Battle for our reworked Dotton Campaign.  This means that when I get home tonight it is going to be time to finish out my Saint Celestine model.  If I can make it work, I am going to try to incorporate the Cherubs holding the cloak as well as placing wings onto the model.   Here is the image that I am loosely using for inspiration.
Below is the list I have drawn up for the 1000 point game to kick things off.

Sisters of Battle 1000 point List
HQ:  Uriah Jacobus 90points  1x Battle Conclave: 4xDeath Cult  Assassins 60points  4x Crusaders 60points Rhino 35 points Total for unit 245points.
Saint Celestine: 115points
Troops:  Battle Sister Squad 1: 18 Sisters 221 points Meltagun 10points. Total 231
Battle Sister Squad 2: 18 Sisters 221 points Flamer 5 points total 226
Fast Attack:  Dominion 6 man Squad:83points 2 Meltaguns: 20points Immolator with Twin Linked Multi-Melta 80points total 183points

Let me know what winter goals you have for the hobby, and please feel free to add any constructive criticism for the list in the comments!

Last Saturday's Game

So we had our big game on Saturday, and it was a lot of fun.  Teams ended up being Grey Knights Blood Angels and Orks vs Legion of the Damned Space Wolves and Tyranids!  Much carnage was had by all, but by turn 4 the kill points were very much in favor of GK BA and Orks, so we called the game to do a test run on our Dotton Campaign.

The 500 point games were very quick, and quite fun, however a few imbalances were soon discovered, and we are reworking the campaign currently. The Blood Angels force my Tyranids faced had plenty of time for leisure activity after how quickly I was tabled.

Battle Report should be up in the next few days, be sure to check back! As always please comment!

Big Game Tommorrow

I want to share my excitement for the big game we are having tomorrow. Plans are to either kick off the Dotton Campaign, or to do a big 3 on 3 1750 points a piece game.  Tenzion and T4nkSmasher will be there, as well a few of the other guys who play in our group.  Armies thus far are looking like Tyranids, Grey Knights, Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Orks or Salamanders, and a Legion of the Damned Marines army!

We will be sure to have a video battle report up soon after the game, once production is done.  Be sure to check back, as I am sure THE CARNAGE WILL BE GLORIOUS!!

Sisters of Batte: My thoughts

Good morning all,
In an attempt to keep the content flowing I am going to go over my thoughts on Sisters of Battle.  The Sisters are an army that I have liked since 2nd edition, and I had a small force in 3rd as well. I loved the idea of a strong, all female army of zealots taking on all comers in the name of the Emperor!  In particular one of the mini's I really though was great was the Heavy Bolter Sister, she looked tough as nails hauling that huge gun!

I have seen a lot of complaints out there regarding the new WD codex that came out last summer, but I think it was a very necessary change. The Inquisition forces needed to be removed, as it would have been silly to have them in both the Grey Knights and Sisters armies. I think that the battle conclave also gave the ability to have a very strong melee unit to use as a death star, with Death Cult Assassins to dish out the pain, and Crusaders to take hits. Some people think that having such a good unit makes them mandatory, and I agree if you are playing in a competitive environment, but I feel you are missing out on a lot of fun if you are not playing friendly games as well.

One thing that will be missed is to be able to move full out with an Immolator, and still fire the twin linked heavy flamer. I can over look this however since Dominion squads have scout, and a flanking Immolator with twin linked multi-meltas is just fun to me. Another thing I would have liked to see is to have the Repressor be included as a regular vehicle.  The amount of fire points on that thing is ridiculous though, so I can somewhat see why this was not done.

I also believe that the simplification of Faith points that came with the White Dwarf codex was necessary.  They are much easier to explain to an opponent now who is not familiar with the Sisters rules. Yes, it does stink to lose some the stronger powers that were available, but the powers the units have are specific to the unit now, and that works for me.   Also, who doesn't like a 6+ invulnerable save for almost the entire army?

Lastly I was a little disappointed with the length of the FAQ/Errata that came out for the codex, but the rulings that were covered were very clear and that was nice.  That sums up my thoughts for now, please be sure to use the comments if you have anything else to add/share!  Let's keep hoping for plastic Sister kits!!

Tyranids in Progress

Had a few minutes to get some painting done after a few crazy days. So far I have primed these in black, and I am using regal blue for the plating.  I still need to come up with a third color, and will be using something lighter to make the blue pop some more.  Perhaps some type of variation on bleached bone.

How is everyone else coming along with the hobby lately?  I was texting with Tank today,  and we both came to the conclusion that Necrons are sweet.  At some point I think I am going to have to pick up a Command Barge and a Monolith to model up and paint.  Maybe even do the LEDs up.

Are there any minis or models that catch your eye,  even if you have no intention of playing the army?   Please feel free to share in the comments!
